Should You Have Children in Your Ceremony?

In all honesty, that depends upon the children. Little boys look fabulous in a tuxedo and little girls are adorable in flower girl regalia but unless they are truly old enough to take - and remember! - directions it may not always be the wisest idea. If they are old enough, by all means, include them in your ceremony!

What About Pets?

I have done many a ceremony with couple’s dogs (and one parrot!) participating in the occasion. As long as they are well behaved and won’t run away with the wedding rings attached to their collars, I welcome them.

Planning for Children in Ceremonies

Ring Bearer Child in CeremonyI recently performed a marriage ceremony with the BEST ring bearer and his cousin, who was just too young to be in the ceremony. Brennan, the BEST ring bearer, was wonderfully composed, looked wonderful in his tux and needed little or no instruction. The littlest ring bearer detracted from the wedding processional when he declared the rose petals on the runner to be "a mess", didn't want to walk down the aisle, and kept pointing to "the mess". The best part; he had been assigned a babysitter who took him out of the ceremony right before it began! Good thinking.
